Ca’ di Fiore and the Venice Carnival 2025

The Venice Carnival, one of the most anticipated events of the year, celebrates this year the 300 years of Giacomo Casanova with a special edition entitled “IL TIME OF CASANOVA”, dedicated to the timeless figure of the Venetian.
The carnival will open with the special evening of “St. Valentine’s Day”, Friday 14 February in Piazza S. Marco, to celebrate love and lovers. As per tradition, however, the first weekend will be dedicated to water, with the usual water procession of traditional boats on Sunday 16 February.
For the entire duration of the event, the celebrations will cross the entire city, with outdoor shows in the various fields and squares thanks to the “Venice Carnival Street Show”, which offers a rich lineup of events in Venice, Mestre, the islands of the lagoon and the Municipality.
On Sunday 16 February the long-awaited water procession of traditional boats returns along the Grand Canal, created in collaboration with the Coordination of Rowing Associations of Voga alla Veneta and led by the legendary papier-mâché “Pantegana”.
The Venice Carnival 2025 begins from the water, with the Venetian Festival. Among colored smoke, balloons and confetti, around a hundred decorated and colorful rowing boats are driven by masked rowers who gather at Punta della Dogana around 11:00 to reach the Rialto area. After having sailed the most beautiful waterway in the world, a colorful choreography will envelop the Rialto bridge before the big party in Erbaria.

Ca’ di Fiore is ready to host those who want to reach Venice with joy and ease.

ESTHER IN CA’ DI FIORE

March 31, 2024

The Easter holidays represent for many the first days of relaxation and holidays after the long winter months and an excellent way to unplug could be to spend a few days in the city of Venice.
The city can offer a dream stay to any type of visitor throughout the year. On the Easter weekend, the possibility of finding mild weather, falling in the middle of spring, will allow you to visit all parts of the city, including the islands, on foot or by boat, activities which are not very usual in the winter months.
Visiting Venice during spring is a unique opportunity to make the most of since the city will not be as crowded as during other celebrations, but it will be possible to visit it peacefully.

The Ca’ di fiore Bed & Breakfast, immersed in the new seasonal blooms of its large park, will be an excellent starting point for reaching Venice, considering that you can: leave the car in the villa’s Park for free, move easily by bus and return in the evening to an extremely welcoming place, which will guarantee you relaxation, tranquility and rest.

Curiosity.

Every year Easter (the Christian Easter) falls on a different date, this happens because it is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, so this anniversary always falls between March 22nd and April 25th .

In other parts of the world the date of  Easter does not coincide because it is  Jewish or Orthodox Easter.

Passover uses the lunisolar calendar; every month begins with the new moon and therefore the full moon always falls on the fifteenth day following.

Orthodox Easter, however, is calculated according to the Julian calendar, based on the cycle of the seasons, according to the real astronomical full moon and the real equinox, observed along the meridian of Jerusalem, the place of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ. Every year the holiday can fall between April 4th and May 8th.

Jean-Etienne Fougerole, an engagé intellectual, promotes his latest book on television (“With open arms”). Pressed by the provocation of his rival, a young right-wing candidate (and writer) who invites him to welcome a Roma family home, publicly announces his address and availability, hoping that no one will really take him seriously. But Babik and offspring, gathered around the television, take up the invitation and knock the cash at the gate, trying to integrate with clumsy results and an irreducible resilience like prejudice. After the gigantic success of “Don’t marry my daughters!”, Philippe de Chauveron returns to tackle the themes of integration and racism with irony.

MERIDIANA PAINTED ON THE FACADE OF “Cà di fiore” IN ORIAGO DI MIRA

DESIGNED AND CONCEIVED BY FRIEND PASQUALETTO LUCIANO A.D. 2021

FEAST OF THE REDEEMER

On the Saturday preceding the third Sunday in July, a long votive bridge of boats is opened, set up on the Giudecca Canal connecting the island with the Zattere, at the height of the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo, thus allowing the pedestrian access to the church of the Redentore .
At the end of the plague, in July 1577, it was decided to celebrate the liberation annually, with the construction of a votive bridge.
This celebration becomes a tradition that is still active after almost five centuries.
In addition to the religious character, the festival should be remembered for a great fireworks show held in the night between Saturday and Sunday on the San Marco basin and for the three regattas of typical Venetian boats organized the following day, attracting thus a large audience from all over the world. Cà Di Fiore is preparing, for this great event, to host a large number of people who will be able to reach Venice comfortably by bus.
Guests will have the opportunity to leave their car in the large parking lot of the Bed & Breakfast ……… we are waiting for you.

2022 Carnival of Venice

We always ask ourselves when the date of the Carnival will be, each year is different and is calculated based on Easter, which is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon of spring: this year it will be April 17. From this date you have to go back 6 weeks: the first is that of the Carnival.

The most important days are Shrove Thursday, which will be 24 February in 2022, and Shrove Tuesday, which will fall on 01 March, two days that respectively mark the official start and end of the Carnival.

The end of Carnival marks the beginning of Lent, a much more sober and rigorous period of 40 days preceding Easter. The name of the Carnival itself derives from the possibility of eating meat before starting the smaller and less rich diet required by Lent. And this is also where the adjective fat used since its origins to indicate the main days of Carnival, Tuesdays and Thursdays, derives: these were the last moments in which you could eat meat and indulge in excesses, food or otherwise.

The Carnival of VENICE is the most spectacular and sumptuous of the peninsula.

From the sixteenth century to the end of the Serenissima Republic, in fact, the Carnival in the lagoon coincided with the theatrical season, when masked people participated in sumptuous costume parties.

The Municipality of Venice announces a “soft” Carnival, which will focus above all on safety, with some small events, but certainly far from those of the pre-Covid.

The new event at the Arsenale, “Remember the Future – Nebula Solaris”, with a limited number. “We will give life to a show on the water, there will be the company Opera Fiammae already seen two years ago in Cannaregio. We will see gigantic water fountains and floating screens on which images will flow.

February 14 Valentine’s Day

It is the Lovers’ Day and it is one of the most heartfelt traditions today.

Already in the nineteenth century with the production of greeting cards, the marketing of anniversaries was given impetus. The tradition of exchanging love cards is now secondary to exchanging gifts, in addition to celebrating with a candlelit dinner.

Cà di Fiore with its rooms equipped with every comfort, and a park of 10,000 square meters, lends itself perfectly to welcoming couples of lovers who want to spend an enchanting evening. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere, it will be the stage for Cupid’s arrows.

Background

Previously there was a pagan festival personified by the rural god Faun-Luperco, where women received a blessing that propitiated their fertility. With the aim of Christianizing the Roman feast, Pope Gelasius I, in 496 instituted a religious feast in the name of Saint Valentine of Terni.

While the historical evolution of the anniversary remains uncertain, there are some historical references, which suggest that Valentine’s Day was dedicated to lovers since the first centuries of the second millennium. Among these, there is the foundation in Paris, February 14, 1400, of the “High Court of Love”, an institution inspired by the principles of courtly love. The court was intended to decide on disputes related to love contracts, betrayals and violence against women.

The oldest “valentina” of which traces have remained dates back to the 15th century and was written by Charles d’Orléans, at the time held in the Tower of London after the defeat at the Battle of Agincourt (1415). Carlo addresses his wife (the second, Bonne di Armagnac) with the words: Je suis desja d’amour tanné, ma tres doulce Valentinée… (I am already sick of love, my sweetest Valentina).

Other references, in Shakespeare’s Hamlet (1601), during the scene of Ophelia’s madness (scene V of act IV), the girl sings raving: “Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and, as soon as the day breaks, I who am a girl I’ll knock on your window, I want to be your Valentina “.

Furthermore, in the middle of February the first signs of the awakening of nature are found; in the Middle Ages, especially in France and England, it was believed that on that date the mating of birds began, so this event lent itself to being considered “the party of lovers”.
